Sergio Rivera Martínez
I am Sergio Rivera Martínez, an artist from Madrid. You could say I have been painting since the day I was born.
Art came into my life naturally: my grandparents and my mother were craftspeople and artists who worked with wood, tapestry, ceramics and, of course, painting.
Every memory I have is tied to painting… At home, at my grandparents’ house, birthday and Christmas presents that were boxes of paints. While I watched my favourite cartoons, I painted. I painted so much that I kept at it whenever I left the house, and that is how I began experimenting with graffiti in my early teens — to the point that today I am part of the book on the history of graffiti in Majadahonda.
Today I work on canvas in a realism that takes care over every detail and every expression. The subjects of my work centre above all on nostalgia, the retro and/or the classic.
